Entry into Walawaani Way

“A parting gift to earth, not a deathprint.” Meg Davis from Potato Point, NSW

Walawaani Way is located in the rolling hills of Bodalla on the South Coast of NSW. Bodalla is a historical village and has been under the stewardship of Yuin people for thousands of years. The village and area have some of the oldest landmarks on the South Coast, such as the All Saints Church built in 1880. It is only a 2.5 hours’ drive from Canberra and 4.5 hours from Sydney. Bodalla is surrounded by some of the most intact native forests in the region and is home to large flocks of parrots including the spectacular Ngaral - black cockatoo.

The conservation natural burial is an 18ha site with magnificent views. It adjoins bushland harbouring Spotted Gums (Corymbia Maculate) some of which are over 250 years old. The ceremony building, to be constructed of recycled character timber beams, will be blended seamlessly into the landscape. This will be a place where families and friends can gather for ceremonies before and/or after the natural burials or interment of ashes. Native trees will be planted to replace headstones.

The management of the transformation of the site will be undertaken by Ben and Fiona with collaboration with the traditional owners who will also regenerate the area back to endemic forest. When necessary, mosaic burns will take place to prepare the land.
